On Thursday, January 3rd all of the Urban Promise School students traveled to the Brandywine River Museum with their teachers to see the fabulous Christmas displays. The museum graciously supplied guides for each class as they traveled through the exhibits. The guides were skilled; many having taught the very grades they were taking on tour. The tour guides brought the art to life with their knowledge, humor and stories. Students were introduced to the art of N.C, Andrew and Jamie Wyeth among other notables. The magical train room, filled with scenes of winter wonder, captivated all who entered. Throughout the museum trees were displayed with all natural ornaments inspiring folks to think of new and creative ways to decorate from nature’s bounty. Also included in the tour were some delightful Victorian dollhouses furnished in amazing detail. The final exhibit that sparked great imagination and creative wonder was the pop-up book display. It presented both vintage and contemporary pop-up books. Parts of the exhibit featured the artists who do this amazing work, some of the stages in creating the books, a video of the process involved in producing these books, and finally a beautiful collection of the books themselves. Students and their teachers were treated to a delicious lunch in the museum restaurant overlooking the river before returning to school. Thanks to all of the folks at the Brandywine River Museum for their gracious hospitality and to our faithful donors for their support!
