Chef Paul invited the entire Urban Promise School to be his guest at Deerfield Golf Club. On a balmy spring day we toured the kitchens where he works, practiced putting on the practice green with the golf pro, rode around the course in a golf cart train, enjoyed seeing a demonstration by the powerful State of Delaware bomb squad robot, played parachute and bean bag toss games with YMCA volunteers, and enjoyed a pony ride.
What a day…but there is more! Chef Paul and the generous management of Deerfield provided a beautiful and nutritious buffet lunch for all of our students and faculty. This treat included a demonstration by Chef Paul of how to make a tasty granola, yogurt and fruit parfait for dessert, which everyone enjoyed.
Of course Julie, Chef Paul’s daughter, was there to help. The students have a real fondness for Miss Julie.
The final activity was a time of dancing which delighted the students and brought a smile to every face. There were many sleepy children on the bus ride home, each of them clutching the gift bags that they received as they left Deerfield. The bags contained healthy snacks and fun treats.
