UrbanPromise School’s 4th-6th grade classes spent the day in Avalon and Stone Harbor, NJ learning about ecosystems. After a short hike to see if they could identify the 10 different ecosystems our faithful beach guide, Mr Harvey, already picked out, they searched for beach treasures and labeled them as animal, plant or human. Mr Harvey could tell them what kind of animal each shell came from. He also gave them a lesson on the oldest animal on Earth, the horseshoe crab. After lots of fun facts, and a quick lunch, the students (and staff) enjoyed an afternoon on the beach to run and play in the waves. This field trip was not a bad way to kick off the school year!
