Whenever I hear about opportunities like this to benefit such a worthy cause, my nature is to jump right in…the boat! I’ve kayaked or canoed on the Delaware River for over 20 years and this event provides meaning behind my affinity for the river.
I’ve volunteered with UrbanPromise as a handyman using my God-given talent and experience to help keep the school & staff houses functioning. The most impressive thing I’ve learned about UP since being involved is how much the program not only helps the younger inner-city children with a loving, Christ-centered educational environment, but how it benefits the older street leaders by providing them with opportunities to improve their lot in life. The StreetLeaders are given the tools and guided through the college enrollment process, taken on college tours and exposed to a side of life that many of us take for granted. It is often difficult to get this type of support from their families, however UP gives them the chance to succeed. This fund-raising effort provides the funds to pay the StreetLeaders to make a difference for the children, and themselves.
