    Inside Scoop From Teens

I’ve worked with StreetLeaders for over 4 years, but their insight and stories never cease to amaze me.  That’s why I jumped at the chance to partner with Theatre Nemours downtown.  I went to a screening of “The Interrupters, ” an amazing film about an organization trying to fight violence in Chicago.  After the film I said to myself, “if they ever show this again, we

Do you dare to Math Dare?!?

My name is Matsiko Ernest, I am from Uganda, and I work at Camp Hope.      Last night was an awesome night for me.  I got to see all the kids from all camps (Harmony, Freedom, Truth, Hope, Victory, and, Promise) come together for the Math Dare.  What I witnessed is that ‘practice makes perfect.’  I enjoyed seeing the children

    1st & 2nd Grade Retreat

It all began, one Friday night, where kids from all sides of Wilmington came together for the best sleepover of the year!  The kids in my car listed bowling, games, and sleeping as some of their favorite parts.  They also realized just how much Faith Presbyterian Church did for them.  They were fed a snack at night and breakfast in the morning, they were entertained by 2

    An Intern’s Thursday Morning

My name is Ashaba Moses, an intern from Uganda. As interns, we help out in the UrbanPromise School class rooms Thursday mornings and I assist Ms. Heath in 1st grade.  Ms. Heath is one of a kind.  She is presumably the most hands on teacher I have ever met. I enjoy assisting her with all these great projects she has prepared for her class, some of

After two practices, one of UrbanPromise’s two teams had their first basketball game.  Our twelve and under team is coached by Joel Orr.  Coach Joel said after the game, “The basketball court is an excellent opportunity to shape and mold Christian character for young men, even for the coach!!  We have a great group of young guys and they are very exciting to watch grow.”  Many of the

    Academy Tours Herr’s R&D

On December 19th, Urban Promise Academy spent an exciting day at the Herr’s potato chip factory. The students’ first stop was the Research and Design department, where they spoke with culinologists, or food scientists, about how they develop new snacks for the company. They even got to sample some new, unreleased flavors of chips! After touring the Herr’s factory and eating lunch at Chipper’s Cafe, the

    Bible Drill and Dodgeball

Last night, for the first time ever, two middle school camps, Truth and Harmony, competed against each other and then together against the rest of the middle school world! Nine middle school students proved they worked on memorizing scriptures for the last 11 weeks in the Bible Drill.  The winner, Amirah, memorized all 11 versus.  All students did exceptional and made their StreetLeaders, interns, and directors very

College Trip to UD was a blast!

55 UrbanPromise kids took over the University of Delaware campus in mid-November!  3rd-8th graders, who have written essays about college and showed good behavior, were able to go with 19 staff to explore campus, hang out with students, and learn what college is all about. They got to experience college with a tour given by InterVarsity students, ate at the cafeteria, went ice skating, and learned

    Still Thankful

We hope everyone had a happy and blessed Thanksgiving holiday!  Take a couple minutes to enjoy some photos from the UrbanPromised Thanksgiving Dinner last Monday.  Close to 500 children and families, staff and volunteers came out for this community tradition.  Thank you to all who donated food, served, and cleaned up; also thanks to the Resurrection Center for again hosting this event.
